TUTORING
View our schedule and book an appointment via our scheduling platform, Penji. Download the Penji app from your mobile app marketplace and sign in with your netid and password. The R-N Learning Center, R-N Writing Center and R-N Mathematics Department use Penji for scheduling. Click VIDEO for a brief Penji tutorial.
We partner with tutor.com to support selected courses. You may access tutor.com by navigating to the left vertical menu bar in your Canvas account, click Courses , click All Courses , then click Newark Tutoring Services . Finally, click the Tutor.com: 24/7 Online Tutoring link which is located in the upper left of your screen. This link will only appear if you are enrolled in a supported course. Qualifying students are capped at five hours per semester. You should thereby use other available support and this service strategically. Our recommendation is to use the service for support in understanding key course concepts or to address problem-set related questions that can be treated in less than one hour. For efficiency, arrive with well formulated questions. Before signing on to the platform, make sure that you have images or electronic copies of any documents you wish to reference, as your tutor will likely request that you upload them.
ARE YOU PREPARED FOR TUTORING
Please do your best to be as prepared as you can to fully participate in the tutoring session - attend all your classes, read your textbooks, prepare and review well organized and copious notes, participate in class discussions and attempt to work your homework to the best of your ability before seeking assistance.
WHO WILL BE YOUR TUTOR?
Our tutors receive extensive initial and ongoing training. The majority are peer tutors who have received at least a B+ in the courses that they wish to tutor. Most have taken these courses here at R-N. In addition, every tutor has a solid overall academic record not falling below a 3.0. Finally, our tutors provide personal and caring service and stress the benefits of early preparation and regular study.
